Research

We believe advancing fire safety means contributing to the industry’s shared knowledge. Our research explores the intersections of fire science, human behaviour, and risk, helping shape better outcomes for practice, policy, and people.

A Risk-Based Approach to Assess the Effectiveness of Sprinklers in Buildings with Combustible Cladding

Kjetil Pedersen, Kate Nguyen, and Ashley Hunt

This study evaluates whether residential sprinklers can offset the fire risk posed by combustible cladding materials (EPS and ACP) in Victoria, Australia. Building on Cladding Safety Victoria’s IF-SCAN triage tool, the analysis draws on real fire data and assesses death rates, injury rates, and construction costs.

We work with researchers, industry bodies, government agencies and project teams who want to put evidence behind fire safety decisions. If you have a question that needs answering, data worth analysing, or a study you’d like a practising fire engineering team to contribute to, we’d like to hear from you.
